Case Study: Little Passports — Enhancing Checkout & Seasonal Campaigns

Overview

Little Passports is a subscription service delivering hands-on educational kits for kids ages 3–10, focused on science, geography, and world cultures. As part of the Begin product ecosystem, it combines tactile learning with digital storytelling to inspire curiosity at home.

During my time on the Little Passports team, I led two high-impact projects:

  1. Integrating Apple Pay into the checkout experience to streamline purchasing and reduce cart abandonment.

  2. Designing a Holiday Gift Guide and setting up the seasonal promo flow for our “Monster Holiday” campaign to support marketing goals during the most critical shopping quarter.

My Role

  • Product Designer, Conversion & Campaign Experience

  • Led UX and UI design for Apple Pay integration

  • Designed the Holiday Gift Guide experience from concept through launch

  • Collaborated cross-functionally with engineering, product, and marketing to support holiday promotional efforts

  • Worked with stakeholders to ensure new features and campaigns were aligned with brand, accessible, and optimized for mobile

Project 1: Apple Pay Checkout

The Challenge
Mobile users accounted for a significant portion of Little Passports' traffic, but checkout completion on mobile lagged behind desktop. We needed to introduce Apple Pay as a streamlined, familiar option to reduce friction for iOS users and improve conversion rates.

Approach

  • Audited the existing checkout experience to identify usability pain points

  • Designed Apple Pay flow within the existing checkout architecture

  • Ensured alignment with Apple’s HIG (Human Interface Guidelines)

  • Created logic and fallback experiences for non-eligible browsers/devices

  • Collaborated with engineering to QA functionality across platforms

Outcome
The Apple Pay integration launched smoothly before Black Friday and contributed to a lift in mobile conversion during peak season.

Project 2: Holiday Gift Guide + Promo Opt-In Flow

The Challenge
Little Passports wanted to maximize holiday engagement by helping users easily find gifts and opt into exclusive discounts through the “Monster Holiday” promotion. The Gift Guide needed to accommodate a wide range of SKUs and appeal to parents, grandparents, and gift-givers.

Approach

  • Designed a visually rich Holiday Gift Guide showcasing top kits by age and interest

  • Created an opt-in promo experience that captured intent early in the funnel

  • Developed flexible modules so the guide could be reused for future seasonal campaigns

  • Partnered with the marketing team to test copy and layout variations for better engagement

Outcome
The Gift Guide drove strong engagement metrics and supported a successful promotional period. The reusable promo opt-in framework became a blueprint for future campaigns.

Impact

These projects helped Little Passports improve mobile checkout performance, streamline seasonal promotions, and drive greater lifetime value from holiday customers. My work emphasized seamless cross-platform experiences, thoughtful campaign UX, and high standards for implementation.
